PROJECT
A growing collection of free, high-quality resources for ELT trainers, trainees, and institutions — created by teachers, tested in classrooms.
What's eltMATE
eltMATE is a growing collection of free resources and materials for trainers and trainees involved in English language teaching professional development. It supports courses and workshops like the Cambridge CELTA, Cambridge DELTA, Trinity CertTESOL, and other TEFL or TESOL programs.
What You’ll Find
You’ll discover materials covering key ELT areas such as:
- Classroom Management
- Teaching Methodology
- Language Systems
- Language Skills
- Teaching in Different Contexts
- Professional Development
Each topic includes a range of sessions. These typically feature:
- Worksheets
- Answer sheets
- Self-access readings
- Extra resources
Most sessions offer up to two hours of instruction. They’re based on practical experience from CELTA and DELTA contexts and can be adapted to suit both novice and experienced teachers in pre-service or in-service TEFL and TESOL training programs.
What's the Approach
Where possible, our sessions follow an experiential learning model. Trainees first take part in an activity as learners. Afterwards, they reflect on the experience to better understand how it works from a teaching perspective.
This process is often supported by loop input, where the content mirrors the method being taught so the learning experience and message align.
In addition, many sessions are designed to be flipped. In these cases, self-study materials are available to help trainees prepare before attending live instruction.
A Growing Project
eltMATE is always evolving. We’re regularly adding new sessions, updating existing ones, and refining content based on feedback from teacher trainers and trainees around the world.
Importantly, this project isn’t funded by any institution, organization, or publisher. All materials are 100% free to download and use for educational purposes. In return, we simply ask for your feedback so we can keep improving and expanding the resource collection.
Happy browsing!

A Note on Sources
Where possible, we’ve credited original sources of inspiration for activities. That said, training ideas often emerge from a blend of influences: something read in a journal, seen in a workshop, heard at a conference, discussed in the staffroom, or shared online.
If you feel any content has been inappropriately referenced or may infringe copyright, please contact us. We’ll review it promptly and make changes if needed.
